Ball Drops

A simple yet perfect way to improve hand-eye coordination is by doing ball drops. All it requires is some dedication and a tennis ball. How it works is you drop the ball on the ground, once it bounces up you run to catch it before it can touch the ground again. This will drastically improve the hand-eye coordination of a player, but also their first step speed and reaction time. What it means to be a coach

In a way, being a coach is a lot like being a Gardener. You plant the seeds of hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship into the athletes under your wing and watch them grow. Zig Ziglar, a successful author, once said, “A lot of people have gone further than they thought they could because someone else thought they could.” A good coach sees the greatness in everyone they work with and pushes them to reach for their goals. Helping those seeds grow and blossom into greatness is their job. Winning comes second to a good coach, ensuring everyone takes steps to be the best they can is what comes first.

It’s easy to think that a coach would undermine a major win his team achieves by taking all the credit, but many celebrate with the athletes. Due to many being former athletes themselves, they know how hard each victory is earned. One of the greatest coaches of all time was a fellow named Herb Brooks.  A star hockey player, Brooks was skilled enough to be on the 1960 U.S. Olympic Team. His dreams seemed to be coming true, but the week before the event began he was cut from the team. They went on to win a gold medal while Brooks was crushed. He continued to play but eventually went into coaching. After driving his team to be the best, they won one of the greatest sports victories of all time. While this was a major victory for Brooks, it was also one for his team and he happily shared the glory. A coach shares the triumph with their athletes since neither could have done it without the other.

It means a lot to be a coach, much more than people think. It’s not just about practicing and games, it’s about being a mentor and a shoulder to lean on for their athletes. A coach shares their glory and victories as well as fostering the very best in everyone they work with.

Elevate Your Baseball Training With POWERHANDZ

As technology and new training techniques are established, players are going to continue elevating their performances, meaning that if they are workout out differently, it is essential that you do as well. Baseball is a sport where not only every second counts, but every millisecond counts. When a baseball leaves a pitcher’s hand, it takes just 0.1 of a second for the hitter just to locate the ball. In this incredibly short period of time, the ball has traveled 12 feet. It also takes the batter seven-hundredths of a second to calculate the speed, spin, and trajectory of the ball. In this time the ball has already traveled another 10 feet. It then takes the batter 0.017 of a second for the brain and body to work together to execute a swing. This means that the batter has about 0.09 of a second to make the decision whether to swing or not. If there is any hesitation, even a thousandth of a second, it could result in a foul ball or a strike.

Don’t get discouraged

The road to your dreams is full of bumps and bad days. That is a plain and simple fact but it doesn’t mean that you should quit. Every great athlete has had a few setbacks in their careers. Just some athletes that are considered one of the greats but once were told “not good enough” include:

  • Carmelo Anthony, who was cut from his High School basketball team for being “too short”. He became a star player for the New York Knicks.
  • Orel Hershiser, a three-time MLB all-star that was cut from his high school and college baseball teams.
  • Charles Barkley, one of the greatest NBA players of all time, was cut from the 1984 Olympic team for “poor defense” and “lack of health.” In 1992, he was put on the team becoming its highest-scoring member.

None of them gave up despite these major blows and neither should you. It’s not if you have a setback, it’s how you react when you have one. Everyone gets knocked down, which is why all great people get up. If you get thrown on your back 10 times, get up 11.

Regret is worse than failure

In life, the only thing that is worse than failure is regret. You might think your dream is impossible but if you don’t go for it, you’ll never forgive yourself. Regret has many psychological effects such as causing depression, an unwarranted sense of shame, and anxiety. It’s better to fail with honor than to never even try. As it’s said in the academy award winning film, Braveheart, “many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here!” The sting of regret will hurt you more than one billion failures, so always go for it.

Before we dive into how exercising in the morning will help you accomplish your goals, we feel as though we must address the elephant in the room. We totally understand that not everyone is a morning person and that is fine.
